The metabolic engineering group mainly studies anaerobic microorganisms, photosynthetic bacteria, yeast and micro flora that play an important role in biotechnological processes such as wastewater treatment and useful material production. After investigation of metabolic flow in a cell or between cells, it is carried out that improvement of the productivity of aiming chemicals through breedings of the strain by means of metabolic engineering and/or optimization of culture conditions by means of fermentation technology. The following themes are studied in particular.

Methane fermentation
Carotenoid production by microalgae and yeast
Vitamin B12 production by anaerobic microorganisms

Hydrogen and solvent production

Chiral compound conversion in anaerobic microorganisms
