The Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences was launched at the Kasumi campus in the heart of Hiroshima, the City of Peace, to provide an organizational basis for internationally competitive research in the life sciences conducted by instructors from medical, dental, and pharmaceutical programs and the Research Institute for Radiation Biology and Medicine. Our work includes developing unique and advanced medical treatments as well as training researchers, educators, and highly specialized professionals with extensive knowledge and well-developed research abilities. To further develop “the Radiation Casualty Medical Research Center”, a 21st Center of Excellence (COE) program in medical field, we newly established the Division of Radiation Biology and Medicine. At the same time, “Hyper Human Technology Toward the 21st Century Industrial Revolution”, another 21st Century COE program we are pursuing in collaboration with the Graduate School of Engineering, continues to accomplish remarkable results. We are also working closely with University Hospital in areas such as research of the regeneration of bones, cartilage, blood vessels, and teeth; the clinical application of that technology; and research in neuroscience, cancer, liver disease, and stomatology. Finally, we offer several lecture courses designed to train medical specialists in areas such as oncology. I invite everyone who is interested in pursuing a scienteific exploration of what it is to be human to join us to the Graduate School at the Kasumi Campus.
