Vanakkam, Vandhanam, Namashkar, Konnichiwa...
I am B.A. Venmathi Maran from India. I was born and brought up in a very traditional city of temples called Madurai in the south part of India.
I never thought that one day in my life I would visit the place which I have hardly read in books and realized its destruction caused by the notorious `little boy` on 6th August 1945. At the dawn of April 7th 2004 I reached Nippon (Japan) and had a warm welcome from the authorities of Hiroshima University at Higashi Hiroshima station. First and Foremost, my whole hearted applause and appreciation to this city of Hiroshima which has reformed remarkably like the `Phoenix`.

Beginning of Life:

I enjoyed my past four years of Japanese life and still enjoying in this beautiful, green city of Higashi Hiroshima. I had my enthralling experience when I joined my Japanese class. I felt very happy when I started interacting and thrilled to read one of the world`s most difficult languages. This is the right time to express my gratitude to all my sensei`s whose narrations which made me to interact smoothly with Japanese people. Language paved a broad way to grab lots of Japanese friends.

Academic Life:

My most interesting academic life in Japan started in October 2004. I started my research in Takehara marine science station, which is situated in front of the serene sea with soothing breeze and an apt environment for the research in the field of marine science. My supervisor Prof. Susumu Ohtsuka meticulously advised and taught me the high standard quality research. I did my research in Fish Parasites with two eminent Professors Susumu Ohtsuka and Kazuya Nagasawa; in the fields of Microbiology Prof. Toshihiro Nakai and in TTX study Dr. Manabu Asakawa. It's my privilege to say proudly that I was fortuned to collaborate with four eminent research personalities of the Graduate School of Biosphere Science. I was gifted enough to have enthusiastic and intellectual colleagues and friends whose help made me to complete my work in time and of course made my research life go more smoother and best.

Family Life:

I was blessed with a loving mother, caring father and very bonded 7 siblings in my life. Now my family is small lovely family with my better half Kavitha and my son Manikanda Rajan. We spent our life in Japan very happily. For all of us Japan became a part and parcel in our life. My wife and son enjoyed their Japanese life very much. Every moment was exciting. The most beautiful places like Miyajima, Tokyo Disneyland in Japan made us feel so wonderful. When my son Mani-kun started speaking Japanese it was wonderful to hear. Japan and its culture or its food habits never troubled me. I enjoy Japanese food from top to bottom especially okonomiyaki, tempura and takoyaki with the flavor of Osake. I love to visit 'Onsen' (hot spring) and enjoyed very much in Shirahama and Dogo Onsens.

Social Life:

Mr. Maran and his family

We, the Indians were a small group, but bright friends from different states of the world joined together with pot luck party combined with singing, dancing, etc. with the flavor of 'Oishi totemo karai Indo Curry' (delicious hot Indian curry). When I came to Japan, Japanese people were very much interested about Indian Spicy food but gradually now I could feel that Japanese now are much interested in Indian Mathematics, IT and Indian culture. Nowadays, so often I am receiving call from my Japanese friends who are more informed about Indian programs on TV and they inform me regularly. In sports, I was thrilled to play my favorite Cricket here in Japan with my Srilankan friends.

I should take this opportunity to thank the Japanese Govt. for awarding me the fellowship to lead a great life here in Japan. Now, I could see the atmosphere in Hiroshima University, it is quietly changing to the English speaking mode from Japanese students. I wish each and everyone to lead a very easy and fun filling life in Japan. Japan is a place which will of course make our life brightest and make provide us a best place to live in peacefully.
