Message from the Organization Director
From the 20th century into the 21st century, academic research has advanced dramatically, but new
challenges for humankind, such as environment and energy, have arisen one after another.
Today, international exchanges are more of a norm than an exception, and society is becoming increasingly
globalized. Against that background, Hiroshima University, one of Japan’s major universities, must function
as a “center for academic learning” to lead the human society of the 21st century, while fostering globally
minded human resources who can play active roles in the international community, thereby helping establish
a sustainable future society.
In admitting particularly outstanding students, our Leading Graduate Education Programs aim to develop
excellent human resources who are able to approach various challenges in an interdisciplinary and creative
manner, assess matters based on extensive knowledge, and work on a global scale. To that end, on the basis
of our many years of highly specialized learning we offer various courses designed to help students further
enhance their creativity, their ability to assess situations from a comprehensive viewpoint, their initiative and
their ability to resolve problems. We also offer common courses that help develop the mindset characteristic
of Hiroshima University. Students enrolled in these Leading Programs will receive such forms of economic
assistance as a scholarship program for graduate students, exemption from admission and tuition fees, and
free use of student dormitories.
We welcome highly motivated students who wish to fulfill newly emerging social needs and contribute to
the realization of a peaceful and sustainable future society.
