Pharmacists as a member of the medical treatment team
Characteristics
Goal of Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (6-year academic program) is to develop human resources:
(1) Those who can cope ambitiously with new problems through creative thinking skills
(2) Those who work as highly-specialized pharmacists capable of making discussions from the scientific point of view in the medical treatment teams
(3) Those who work as pharmacists capable of understanding patient’s conditions and doctor’s diagnoses, and bearing the responsibility for the use of medicines through proposing appropriate drug prescriptions
(4) Those who can make novel pharmacotherapeutic strategies to contribute to the world-leading pharmaceutical researches
After the entrance to our Faculty, first-year students complete general education subjects at the Higashi-Hiroshima campus. From 2nd year, they move to the Kasumi campus, and learn the basics of various specialized subjects on pharmacy according to “Pharmaceutical Program”. At the end of 4th year, students take national examinations (CBT and OSCE) which evaluate knowledge, skills and attitude necessary for the clinical practices. If approved, they are permitted to take clinical practices at 5th year and a variety of specialized subjects in clinical pharmacy. Furthermore, after graduation, they are eligible to take National Examination for Pharmacists, and if they pass it, they are finally admitted to work as pharmacists. Students are also given an opportunity to enter Doctoral Course (4-year) at the Graduate School of Medical Sciences, Hiroshima University.
