The Graduate School for International Development and Cooperation's Special Program for Human Resources in Sustainable Development of Developing Countries -Environment, Education, and Peace- / Master's Program (2 years), Doctoral Program (3 years)

This program aims to train human resources who can contribute to the sustainable development of developing countries, especially in the field of environment, education, and peace-building. This program will recruit excellent students from developing countries, especially those from Africa and Asia. Both lectures and research advice will be given in English. The focus of the program will be on developing the necessary problem solving skills required in developing countries, as problems and their solutions vary from country to country.

Research is emphasized not only in the doctoral course, but also the masters course, as research is the basis of problem solving. Interdisciplinary research, covering the humanity, society, and nature, will also be strongly encouraged because real-world problems cannot be solved within one discipline alone. At IDEC, students will find an experienced staff in many fields who are conducting research in developing countries, especially in the fields of environmental studies, education, and peace-building, and who are willing to give advice on various matters. In this rich environment, students will be able to effectively conduct interdisciplinary studies to solve real world problems in developing countries.

Students enrolled in the program belong to five existing courses within the IDEC, and additionally select one of three fields (environmental studies, education, or peace-building) in order to perform interdisciplinary research. As set down in the qualifications and requirements (see the IDEC's Application Requirements), applicants interview with their future advisors face-to-face and obtain a recommendation. Students who wish to apply should contact a staff member whom they wish to be their advisor via e-mail or fax. Information regarding staff members can be found on the following homepage.

Twinning Program for Advanced Dental Medicine Promotion in Southeastern Asia

Dental Medicine in Southeastern Asia is still developing, and it still cannot be said that the condition of dental medicine is favorable. One of the causes of the delay in development in dental medicine is the lack of both dental practitioners with advanced and specialized diagnosis and treatment skills, and of academic faculty to cultivate such practitioners. In regards to this, Japan, a country with developed dental medicine, is considering providing human resources training support, however, as courses in dental education in Southeastern Asia are primarily given in English, using Japanese universities as training sites is generally avoided due to language barriers. Thus, Hiroshima University, in partnership with 3 academic exchange partner universities in Southeastern Asia, have created a special joint twinning program in English, with the intent to support the advancement of dental medicine in Southeastern Asia.
