Twinning Program for Advanced Dental Medicine Promotion in Southeastern Asia

Dental Medicine in Southeastern Asia is still developing, and it still cannot be said that the condition of dental medicine is favorable. One of the causes of the delay in development in dental medicine is the lack of both dental practitioners with advanced and specialized diagnosis and treatment skills, and of academic faculty to cultivate such practitioners. In regards to this, Japan, a country with developed dental medicine, is considering providing human resources training support, however, as courses in dental education in Southeastern Asia are primarily given in English, using Japanese universities as training sites is generally avoided due to language barriers. Thus, Hiroshima University, in partnership with 3 academic exchange partner universities in Southeastern Asia, have created a special joint twinning program in English, with the intent to support the advancement of dental medicine in Southeastern Asia.
