Visiting Hiroshima University
 

Q1. I want to make a reservation at the lodging on campus!
 

At HU, we have 2 lodging facilities available. In order to make a reservation at either one, you will need someone on campus to fill out the paperwork for you. For those who wish to stay on campus, please contact your contact professor/staff member at HU and consult with them. For more details, please see the lodging facilities homepage.

Q2. Is there a program where I can gain a degree using English?
 

Through the Special Program in English, it is possible to earn a degree using English. Please see here for details.
For all other courses, please consult with your advising staff. You can search for staff members in the field of your choosing using the Profiles of Faculty and Research Scholars Database.
 

Q3. I want to study Japanese - is there a Japanese Language Program?
 

There is a Japanese language class for enrolled international students. It is also possible for students to enroll in courses to study specific fields such as "Japanese Language Education" and "Japanese Language/Culture." For details, please see the Japanese Language/Japanese Culture Program homepage.

For those with the exclusive aim of learning Japanese, we recommend enrolling in a language school.
 

Q4. How do I contact professors and possible advisors?
 

You can find the contact information for academic staff members in the Profiles of Faculty and Research Scholars Database Profiles of Faculty and Research Scholars Database. As there are cases where the entirety of a professor's contact information may not be displayed, we ask that you please contact the Student Support Group of the faculty of graduate school the professor belongs to and inquire there.
 

Q5. Are there any MBA courses?
 

There are currently no MBA courses established at HU, however, there is a Management major offered at the Graduate School of Social Sciences. For details, please see the Graduate School of Social Sciences Homepage
 

Q6. What kinds of scholarships are available? How to do I apply?
 

Scholarships are largely divided into 2 types: Japanese government (the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology or MEXT) scholarships, and private organization "private fund" scholarships.
For details about MEXT scholarships, please refer to this homepage and inquire at your local Japanese embassy or consulate.

Please be aware that you cannot apply for scholarships until you have been formally accepted to the university, and that the percentage of international students who receive private scholarships are around 30%, so be sure that you research how much tuition and the cost of living is before arriving in Japan. More detailed information can also be found on the JASSO (Japan Student Services Organization) website.
 

Q7. Does HU have a student exchange program?
 

Our university has a short-term student exchange program, the Hiroshima University Study Abroad Program (HUSA) with partner universities abroad. For details, please refer the HUSA homepage.
 

(To apply, a formal recommendation will be necessary from the person in charge of exchange programs at your university. Personal applications will not be accepted.)
 

Q8. I'd like copies of the Hiroshima University Guide!
 

For those who would like general information about HU, please inquire at the International Planning and Cooperation Group- you will be sent information by postal mail.
 

For those who would like information on specific graduate schools or research departments, please contact the administrative office of the concerned graduate school directly.

Q9. I'm currently enrolled at another university- is it possible for me to transfer to HU?
 

For details regarding the transfer exam (undergraduate level), please see the Admission Center homepage (Japanese).
The guides for transferring and the transfer exam are all in Japanese. If you do not feel your Japanese is sufficient, we recommend that you graduate from your current university and study at HU as a graduate student.
 

Q10. When transferring, can I also transfer my credits?
 

As the courses which can be transferred for credit vary for each faculty, please consult with each faculty's Student Support Group.
 

Q11. I want to study abroad as a MEXT scholar; how do I go about getting accepted?
 

Applications for MEXT Scholars (embassy recommendation) are only accepted from those who have passed the first round examinations held at your local Japanese embassy or consulate. Please attach the embassy/consulate-provided Temporary Test Certificate and submit it to the Student Support Group of the graduate school of your choosing.

Q12. How much is tuition?
 

For information on the application fee, admission fee, and tuition fee, please see the "Fees Necessary for Admission" portion of the Admissions Guide. The fees for each faculty and graduate school can be found there.

Q13. What about admission or tuition fee exemption?
 

There is an exemption/deferment system for admission fees, and an exemption system for tuition fees. For information on how to apply, click below . However, as we cannot guarantee that every request will be honored, we recommend that you prepare enough funds to cover any necessary fees before coming to Japan.

Q14. Could you send me all the documents necessary for applying to HU?
 

Please apply for application documents to the Student Support Group of the graduate school of your preference on top of contacting a faculty member about becoming your advisor.

Q15. Where can I find HU employment information?
 

Please see the Employment section of the Hiroshima University homepage.
 

Q16. How can I get permission to use photographs, etc, from the HU Homepage?
 

As pictures are the personal property of the faculty member who took them, please inquire about usage at the concerned faculty, graduate school, or research center. Should you be unsure where to inquire at, please contact the University's Public Relations Group.
 

Q17. For companies performing background investigations: How can I verify the degree of a previous student?
 

As information regarding degrees is classified as personal information, we only provide such information to the alumni his/herself (we will not provide information to third parties). Please have the alumni request verification him/herself at the concered graduate school, faculty, or research department.
