University Education Internationalization Promotion Program (Leading International Cooperation Support)

"Leading International Cooperation Support" aims to redouble national efforts to promote the internationalization of Japanese higher education and to improve its international appeal through providing financial support to particularly outstanding initiatives from among the many leading international cooperation plans which will raise the international standards of Japanese higher education. In order to plan for the improvement of international applicability and commonality in Japanese higher education, as well as raise international recognition and strengthen international competitive power, we must make use of the results of exchanges universities abroad as well as collaborate with multiple universities abroad. Beginning with multiple degree programs, such as double degree programs, we must implement joint international programs, which will allow us to contribute to international knowledge networking.

Summary
|
In the education of medical practitioners in Japan, a lack of education regarding aspects such as technical abilities and bedside manner in the medical field and overwhelming emphasis on knowledge only, stemming from the exclusion of a practical skills portion on state exams, has been identified. To resolve this, we've introduced the concept of "clinical clerkship" in the pre-graduation clinical pathology training of our Faculty of Medicine/Dentistry students in the hopes of strengthening the practical abilities of the students, however, we have yet to achieve significant results. Moreover, there are difficulties in the legalities of student medical conduct, as well in gaining consent from patients, which limits patient-centered training in the medical field. Thus, we've introduced the computer-controlled Skills Lab and at universities abroad with plans for student skill acquisition via the virtual guidance system which uses IT technology such as video, our aims is to have students learn about Skills Lab management and learning the practical skills and manners side of education through the Lab, and improve the quality of academic faculty.

Summary

This program endeavors to introduce leading Western clinical education methods in practical specialized education being developed by HU and plan for further growth in order to promote the cultivation of 21st Century human resources who can respond to a society which demands highly complex occupational abilities, and who are equipped with practical and application ability, as well as the ability to make autonomous decisions and solve problems.
As HU believes it to be a social obligation to produce highly capable academic faculty from all areas of the university, and because of the achievements the university possesses, we must first bring in Western case methods, real work-styled learning, and class design training using faculty training education centered in the Graduate School of Education as a model. HU would like to create a foundation with those methods through Faculty Development (FD) which can be developed in specialized education fields in medicine, science and technology, law and economics, etc.
