With the accident at the Fukushima #1Nuclear Power Plant and the resulting influence from the halt of nuclear energy production within the country, this summer we are facing another electric power shortage. Nationwide, energy saving work such as electric-power conservation is being implemented, and at Hiroshima University as well our members are working together on energy saving measures. On this page, we introduce the electric-power conservation measures (including schedules) that this university will focus on. If all members (about 20,000 people) personally participate we can expect a significant impact.

  ・During the period of June 1～September 30, Only 1 out of 2 elevators will be in use（Administration Building）

○Toilet seats with a warm-water shower feature- Refrain from using warm water and heated seat function

○Power down (air-conditioner, lighting, computer) when on lunch break or away from your desk（for more than 1 hour）

   ・From July 30, scheduled stop of experiments followed by maintenance
  ＊Environmental Research and Management Center
   ・Change in the hours of operation for partially processed water production equipment （avoid operating on the date with high temperatures   between 12:00 and 15:00）

○Refurbishment of Facilities for Large Demand Lighting (Library shelves (motion sensors, or LED))

○Implementation of an ECO patrol

○Implementation of ECO Diagnosis

○Introduction of natural energy (Solar power, etc.)

○Repair Facility (light-shielding paint on roofs, exterior wall insulation, light shielding film, multi-layer glass etc.)

○Various energy saving upgrades for construction facilities and equipment (air conditioners, lighting fixtures, transformers, pump equipment etc. )

○Organize the research freezers and other cold storage contents etc. and reduce the number of units in operation

○Draft chamber operation reviewed and performed only when necessary
