Overview of the Center

The Institute for Sustainable Sciences and Development was established at Hiroshima University in June 2010. The Institute consists of two divisions, Division of Interdisciplinary Research and Division of Sustainable Development. The former is responsible for the “Tenure Track System for International Leaders for Sustainable Sciences”, which is part of the program for the improvement of young researcher’s academic environments, a project financed by the special coordination funds of Japan Science and Technology Agency since 2010. The latter conducts the project of “Practical Research on Sustainable Development in Central American and Caribbean Countries”, which is financed by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology since 2010. The latter is applying the scientific results of the former to solve the problems in developing countries in Central American and The Institute for Sustainable Sciences and Development was established at Hiroshima University in June 2010. Message from the Director

Our institute makes an effort to establish “International Leaders for Sustainable Sciences”. The leaders are expected to conduct innovative and creative research as well as education in purpose to form an international hub of interdisciplinary integration, concentrated on materials science, life sciences, and earth & environmental sciences, which are excellent disciplines and important features of Hiroshima University. We intend to produce such leaders and to build a global base of “Sustainable Sciences” which will promote the development of a sustainable society.
