Professor Uye’s research is on the outbreaks of jellyfish that caused significant damage to the fishing industry in Japan. His research shed light on the previously mysterious biology of the echizenkurage (giant jellyfish), and is highly esteemed for its contributions toward reduction of damage by jellyfish.

Professor Uye said that he is very happy to be able to offer a solution to the jellyfish outbreaks, which are expanding globally. He said that he will try hard to improve the precision of the outbreak forecast, apply new technologies, and will help bring back the bountiful sea.
