United States Ambassador to Japan, Mrs. Caroline Kennedy interacted with Hiroshima University students

April 17th, 2015 United States Ambassador to Japan, Mrs. Caroline Kennedy visited Hiroshima University Kasumi Campus (Minami-ku, Hiroshima City) and discussed the importance of study abroad and global human resources with Hiroshima University students.

First,President Mitsuo Ochi gave a briefly speech in English as follows.“Let me take this opportunity to hope that the following discussion with our students will enhance true friendship between our two countries, and lay the foundation to strengthen our cooperation based on friendship, trust, and mutual respect”

Eleven undergraduate and graduate students, President Mitsuo Ochi, Governor of Hiroshima Prefecture Mr. Hidehiko Yuzaki, and Ambassador Kennedy circled a table. After introducing themselves, they discussed topics such as their thoughts while studying abroad and differences between education in Japan and United States. The discussion was held in English. While having a friendly atmosphere, students boldly answered questions asked by Ambassador Kennedy. Because it was such a great exchange, the discussion went over the scheduled time.

After the interaction, students said “The ambassador made it very easy for us to talk by giving us topics to talk about” “I hope to contribute to globalizing Hiroshima University and Higashi Hiroshima city” “I was inspired by Ambassador Kennedy’s words ‘I want you to participate actively in the world, not just between Japan and the United States’”
