Taoyaka Program for creating a flexible, enduring, peaceful society’s Opening Ceremony 2014
took place on Thursday, April 3rd. 7 students from Japan, China, Vietnam, Indonesia, and
Bangladesh were admitted as the first generation student of Taoyaka Program, the program
newly established at Hiroshima University.
Taoyaka Program aims to foster global leaders who can contribute to multicultural coexistence
– which is a worldwide theme – by deeply understanding regional societies and cultures,
developing proper technologies, and implementing these to resolve problems that disadvantaged
regions confront while working closely with the regions.
In the opening ceremony, Hiroshima University President, Dr. Toshimasa Asahara gave the
Presidential Address in English: “Those who start this program today have had different
careers and the educational backgrounds in various fields. Some of you have already studied
in the master’s program, graduated from other universities, had a full-time job, or have been
working actively as a professional in foreign institutions. From now, during the 5 years, I
expect all of you to study hard in order to be a global leader and work globally. You will
get the full support of our university so that you can devote yourself to studies.”
