Phoenix Leader Education Program the 3rd retreat was held

The 3rd retreat was held.

The Phoenix Leader Education Program held the 3rd retreat at the Hiroshima Airport Hotel on July 19 to 20, 2014. Forty-one people including the program students, teaching staff and the guest lecturer attended.

Dr. Okamoto Tetsuji, Program Director, made the opening address. Mr.Shiga Kenji, Director of Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum, gave a lecture entitled “Do you see Hiroshima 2.0 ?” He discussed the dilemma of keeping the memories of the Hibakusha, A-bomb survivors, alive. He also mentioned that nobody can really understand the suffering of the Hibakusha, however, we can try to relate to their pain. It was a very good opportunity not only for the program students who are trying to become global leaders in radiation disaster recovery and also for teaching staff.

On the 2nd day, some 1st year students made presentations about the training that they had attended at Radiation Emergency Assistance Center/Training Site (REAC/TS), Tennessee, US in English. Their achievement was well recognized. Then an English debate was held. We shared the common view about the importance of promoting active English learning in our program.
