The 1st Radiation Disaster Medicine Course Seminar was held.

The 1st radiation disaster medicine course seminar was held on Friday 12th of December 2014. Dr. Takako Tominaga, Radiation Emergency Medicine Assistant, REMAT, National Institute of Radiological Sciences gave a lecture on the Action of the National Institute of Radiological Sciences REMAT and the Acute Radiation Syndrome (ARS) Study.

In this seminar she talked about the basics of radiation, the basics of its effect on living creatures and, acute and long-term radiation damage. In her lecture she also talked about a case of acute radiation syndrome, ARS, and cases caused by radiation accidents overseas and also the case of JCO Co. Ltd. in Japan.

In addition to the lecture on ARS, she introduced REMAT, its establishment, its activity as a tertiary radiation emergency medical institution. She also explained how REMAT responded soon after the occurrence of TEPCO’s Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant accident caused by the Great East Japan Earthquake. She mentioned that the REMAT took care of the radiation disaster patients.

After the lecture, teaching staff as well as the students joined the conversation and the seminar ended with an active discussion.
