Admission Policy- School of Medicine

1. Qualities of Desired Students
School of Medicine seeks students who place value on connections with others; are enthusiastic to learn and work for human health at Program of Medicine or Program of Health Sciences, and to possess academic knowledge and qualities necessary to complete professional degree programs.

2. Basic Policy for Student Selection
Responding to student needs such as providing a wide variety of career opportunities  after graduation, School of Medicine is made up of Program of Medicine and Program of Health Sciences with 3 courses; Nursing, Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy.
Based on diploma policy and curriculum policy set up for each program, the School conducts multifaceted and comprehensive selection methods utilizing “the three elements of academic ability” (knowledge and skills).

Program of Medicine(Program of Medicine)

Based on diploma policy and curriculum policy for Program of Medicine, the program seeks students who possess a range of abilities prior to admission as follows:

(1) Knowledge and skills acquired through school subjects
・Those who have a keen interest in life sciences
・Those who possess a wide range of scholastic knowledge in all subjects offered at high schools
・Those who have high scores especially in Science and English

(2) Capacities for thought, judgement and expression acquired through school curriculum and comprehensive learning
・Those who find problems by themselves and solve the problems
・Those who judge information positively and precisely
・Those who actively work on problem-solving
・Those who can actively participate in international exchanges with a global perspective

(3) Independence, diversity and cooperation acquired through integrated studies and extra-curricular activities
・Those who like interacting with people and can share other people’s pain
・Those who are enthusiastic in contributing to local society through medical care
・Those who establish good relations with others with high-leveled communication skills
・Those who understand responsibilities and work collaboratively in their surrounding communities

Contents that entrants are expected to prepare before admission are as follows:
・Academic achievement (especially science and English) in high school
・Experiences in making social contributions such as voluntary works including non-medical activities
 
Program of Medicine also seeks students who strive to acquire abilities and qualities in accordance with diploma policy set up by the program after entering Hiroshima University.

Program of Health Sciences Nursing Course(Program of Nursing)

Based on diploma policy and curriculum policy for Program of Nursing, the program seeks students who possess a range of abilities prior to admission as follows:

(1) Those who widely contribute to society with interest in health care and flexible / broad views
(2) Those who possess a broad range of basic knowledge and a rich sense of humanity cultivated by academic abilities and experiences through prior education (up to high school)
(3) Those who possess a common sense, high moral value / responsibility as a member of a society, and is kind and considerate to others
(4) Those who have a strong inquiring mind, learn positively from social skills and give everything to cultivate their own potentials
(5) Those who can calmly deal with difficulties or problems having creative and challenging spirits
(6) Those who possess cooperative personality and high communication skills, and break new grounds for their own life while helping each other

Entrants are expected to have the skills to be engaged in nursing in the future including communication, interest in social conditions, logical thinking and problem solving before admission.

After entrance, Program of Health Sciences Nursing Course also seeks students who strive to :

・Take a leading role in research, education and clinical practice for future nursing, based on integrated knowledge and skills of various education contexts, and nursing
・Make a contribution to human society having good relationships with others, equipped with communication skills, respect for rules and models, and manners as medical professionals

Program of Health Sciences Physical Therapy Course(Program of Physical Therapy)

Based on diploma policy and curriculum policy for Program of Physical Therapy, the program seeks students who possess a range of abilities prior to admission as follows:

(1) Those who can understand how people with disabilities feel
(2) Those who always try to accomplish no matter what the circumstances are
(3) Those who pursue to achieve mutual growth which promotes teamwork by listening to others and obtaining good communication skills
(4) Those who contribute to development of health, medical care and welfare from a scientific medical point of view based on obtained knowledge
(5) Those who are eager to contribute to society using physical therapy methods

Entrants are expected to have communication and scientific thinking skills before admission.

Along with knowledge and expertise for physical therapy, Program of Health Sciences Physical Therapy Course also seeks students who strive to contribute to society based on research capabilities.

Program of Health Sciences Occupational Therapy Course(Program of Occupational Therapy)

Based on diploma policy and curriculum policy for Program of Occupational Therapy, the program seeks students who possess a range of abilities prior to admission as follows:

(1) Those who contribute to society as researchers, educators, administrators, or clinical professionals leading an active role on national and international levels in the field of occupational therapy
(2) Those who possess English and written expression skills as well as basic academic ability sufficient to learn occupational therapy
(3) Those who are social, cooperative and responsible
(4) Those who possess a strong enthusiasm to learn and strive to develop their potential skills
(5) Those who can cope with any difficulty or problem calmly in a positive manner

Contents that entrants are expected to prepare before admission are as follows:
・Basic knowledge in all subjects offered at high schools
・Basic abilities to read, write and communicate in English
・Ability to express his/her thoughts in a logical thinking way

After entrance, Program of Health Sciences Occupational Therapy Course also seeks students who strive to :
・Acquire basic knowledge on untaught subjects in high schools
・Acquire basic and specialized knowledge needed for occupational therapists
・Improve own abilities by learning with diligent efforts
・Improve skills including communication with others and logical thinking for problem solving
・have an understanding and empathy for those who are disadvantaged or handicapped people
