On January 23, 2006, University President Muta received a visit from the Brunei Darussalam Ambassador to Japan, Mr. Dato Adnan Buntar. President Muta, Ambassador Buntar, and Vice President Ninomiya (also in charge of International Affairs) discussed an academic exchange and it is hoped that in the future, university exchanges will be made possible between schools in Brunei Darussalam and our university. As it turns out, the Ambassador's stepfather, and former Chief Minister of Brunei Darussalam, Mr. Pengiran Yusuf once came to Hiroshima University to study as a Special Southern Exchange Student. Mr. Yusuf and other Special Southern Exchange Student colleagues discussed the day that the atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima.
