JICA Researchers in the African Region Visit the President

Visitors meet with Present Muta.

On March 3rd, 18 researchers and others linked to the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), from the African region visiting the Hiroshima University Center for the Study of International Cooperation in Education (CICE), paid a courtesy visit to University President Taizo Muta.

CICE was, through JICA, entrusted with the "Promoting a Self-Reliant Approach to Basic Education Development in Africa through Research and Dialogue," and conducted research from February 21 to March 15 of this year. This research was conducted under the auspices of the CICE-promoted "Asian and African University Dialogue Project" which welcomes its second year with 12 members (2 university researchers and 1 Department of Education administrative official) from 4 countries (Ethiopia, Nigel, Tanzania, Uganda) participating.

This year's courtesy visit, which was to present the midterm findings of their research, included not only the above mentioned 12, but also 4 representatives from previously participating countries (Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, and South Africa), and 2 participating researchers from India and Indonesia, totaling 18 people. The representatives expressed their gratitude for being able to conduct their research at our university.

As well, on March 2nd, Asian and African Education specialists used this chance to gather in Hiroshima for a workshop for the sake of advancing international education cooperation through turning the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology-supported "Base System Construction Project" into a reality. Ms. Naomi Yoshiwaza, Unit Chief for the International Affairs Division and a member of the Minister's Secretariat in the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology was among the participants.
