Title: Sustaining the Peace Process in Mindanao
Language: English
Brief:
The presentation will review the gains achieved in the peace process
between the Philippine government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front
(MILF), with focus on the first two substantial agenda of the peace
negotiations: ceasefire and cessation of hostilities, and relief and
rehabilitation. It will then discuss the current difficulties faced,
especially in breaking the deadlock in talks on the ancestral domain issue,
the threats to the ceasefire, and other complications resulting from ongoing
hostilities with other armed groups in the region such as the Abu Sayyaf
group, Jema Islamiyaah and the Moro National Liberation Front.
