On December 6, 2019, about 20 international students and their family members gathered at Hiroshima University’s Spanish Plaza to hold a small memorial ceremony to honor Dr. Tetsu Nakamura, a Japanese physician engaged in support activities in the fields of agriculture and irrigation in Afghanistan, who died in a roadside shooting on December 4.
At the gathering, participants arranged candles to form the name “Nakamura” in Roman and Kanji characters, raised a message to the deceased and prayed for his soul.
Mr. Haqani Mohammad Ibrahim, 3rd year Ph.D. student of the Graduate School of Biosphere Science and the representative of HU’s Afghanistan Student Council, who called for the event said, “I will never forget how much Mr. Nakamura helped my country. We prepared this gathering to convey our feelings of sadness and pain to Mr. Nakamura’s family”

After the event, Mr. Haqani said, “Mr. Nakamura is a person who sent and put into practice messages against war, against violence and towards the production of food. We want to pass on his work to the next generation”.
