Prompt actions taken by Hiroshima University to support current/former Afghan students of HU trapped in Afghanistan

In response to the growing tensions in Afghanistan, Hiroshima University (HU) held an emergency meeting on 24 August 2021 with the President and all Board members, and established a ‘Special Task Force’ under the International Office to gather information and discuss measures to support former Afghan students of HU.

The above task force is going to work with the Afghan students who are currently studying at HU to confirm the facts and consider what kind of support the university needs to provide. As soon as the coordination with the relevant organizations is made, the university is going to provide maximum support to the current/former Afghan students of HU who are trapped in Afghanistan, and take necessary measures as soon as possible.

In addition, the mayor of Higashi-Hiroshima, Mr. Hironori Takagaki, has confirmed that he is prepared to offer the utmost cooperation from a humanitarian point of view.

By fostering diversity through education, research, medical care, and social contribution activities, Hiroshima University, as a university of peace, will contribute to the realization of a diversified, free, and peaceful global society.
