On November 19, the 2007 Hiroshima University International Friendship Party, sponsored by HU President Asahara, was held at a hotel in Hiroshima City with around 700 people in attendance.

The friendship party is held this time of year every year to foster closer relationships between international students and foreign researchers studying at HU, as well as those from regional international student support organizations, and the faculty at HU.

"It is my hope that this party will serve as a time to deepen friendships between those who participate," said President Asahara in a speech given in English. His speech was followed by two addresses by the guests' representative and international students' representative, and the party opened with a toast by the Executive and Vice President of Education.

Performances by international students, including songs and dances from China, Myanmar, Uzbekistan, and Malaysia, a fashion show by the Bangladeshi international students, and even a surprise a cappella performance at the end, brought the evening to a memorable close.
