Abstract

Training Hospital Medicine Providers:
Using Collaboration, Comradery, and Resilience
As hospital medicine

Kris P Rehm, MD, SFHM

As hospital medicine celebrates just over 22 years of practice, we continue to evolve and change in the face of the changing health care environment.  In order to support our providers to develop lifelong careers in Hospital Medicine; we will review techniques for successful professional development---using collaboration, comradery, and resilience as three techniques for growth.   Working within our own institutions as well as through organizations like the Japanese Society of General Hospital Medicine, we can obtain personal and professional success. But we must also recognize that burnout is high in our specialty.  It is important to recognize potential causes and solutions for physician burnout—for trainees as well as for faculty.   During this talk we will discuss risk factors for burnout and ways to integrate wellness into our daily routines.
