Research Fields

I am attempting to approach children's literature from not only a textual perspective but also a visual perspective. I am conducting comparative studies between Japanese and Chinese children's magazines from various perspectives, including both literature and art. I am also interested in the relationship between the expressive medium of picture books and art.

Research Outline

My specialty is children's literature. In lectures and seminars, students learn basic research methods for each of the following literary works: fairy tales, picture books, magazines, and animation; They analyze specific works to deepen their knowledge and understanding of children's literature and culture. In terms of research, the functions of children's publishing art in Japanese and Chinese children's magazines have been examined from various perspectives in the first half of the 20th century. In particular, I focus on cover pictures, frontispieces, and illustrations in magazines. I studied their representations, characteristics, and relationship to the times, their functions for readers, and the editors' intentions.
