The Arab Spring which started in Tunisia in December 2010 received a world-wide attention as a democratization wave led by citizens in the Middle East. In January 2011, the Tahrir Square in Cairo, Egypt, was full of citizens protesting against the government and President Mubarak stepped down the following month. However, the democratization has not been an easy path. Upon visit of five Election Commission members of Egypt to Hiroshima as a part of training organized by the Japan International Cooperation Agency, we are going to have an opportunity to reflect on peace, democratization and the role elections play in Egypt, together with our guests.
