Phoenix Leader Education Program (Hiroshima Initiative) for Renaissance from Radiation Disaster

The 4the Short Field Visit was held.

Some students of our program attended Hiroshima peace memorial ceremony at the Hiroshima peace memorial park and Hiroshima University memorial service for A-bomb victims at the Higashi-senda campus. This was the 4th short field visit as part of the radiation disaster recovery studies to deepen their understanding of the damage caused by the A-bomb dropped on Hiroshima and of the recovery from it.

The ceremony was conducted even in the rain for the 1st time in the last 43 years. Noriaki Usui, city council member, read an address and Kazumi Matsui, Hiroshima city mayor, made a peace declaration. The child representatives delivered a commitment to peace.

After attending the ceremony, the students moved to the Higashi-senda campus to attend the Hiroshima University memorial service for A-bomb victims. In the service they presented the list of the A-bomb victims and had a moment of silence, then the President of Hiroshima University gave a memorial address. The student representative from the program paid a floral tribute and offered water for the victims. It was a meaningful opportunity for students to reflect on what happened in Hiroshima.

For this short field visit, some students in TAOYAKA program for creating a flexible, enduring, peaceful society, Organization of the Leading graduate Education Program, also attended.
