Phoenix Leader Education Program (Hiroshima Initiative)

for Renaissance from Radiation Disaster

The 5th short-term internship report meeting was held.

At the 5th short-term internship report meeting, one of the program students who completed her short-term internship at the National Environmental Institute gave her presentation.

The meeting was jointly held with the 2nd fieldwork report meeting on 24 September 2014. In her presentation she mentioned that radiation level of smelts living in the lake Ohnuma of Mt. Akagi, Gunma prefecture didn’t go down comparing that in other contaminated areas after the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear power plant accident. She conducted research, and based on its result she assumed that it was attributed to the small number of branches of the lake Ohnuma in her hypothesis.

She also mentioned that research institutes such as the National Environment Institute can serve as a bridge between various facilities and universities nearby and community people, and that she learned how the practical research activity should be.

These report meetings were televised to both Higashihiroshima and Kasumi campus as well as to several collaborating organizations. The presentations and the discussions were conducted in English.
