The 9th Short Field Visit was held.

The 9th short field visit was conducted from the 23rd to the 25th of March 2015. Five people, including both program students and teaching staff visited the Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA) and CHIYODA TECHNOL CORPORATION.

On the morning of the 23rd, they visited the nuclear Emergency Assistance Training center, JAEA. They learned about the information collection system and logistic support system when disasters occur. In the afternoon, they visited the Nuclear Fuel Cycle Engineering Institute. They observed the reprocessing plant to understand the reprocessing of spent fuel. They also visited the research facility to learn about the basic research on underground disposal.

On the 24th, they visited the Oharai Research and Development Center, JAEA and observed the Joyo, fast breeder reactor, and the Japan Material Testing Reactor (JMTR), and the High Temperature Engineering Test Reactor (HTTR). They were briefed about the exposure situation at the time of the Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant accident.

On the 25th, they visited the Ohnukidai office of Chiyoda Technol Corporation. They observed both the glass dosimeters measurement lines and assembly lines as well as the calibration research facility. They were able to learn the principle of glass dosimeters and also calibration methods on the measuring instruments for radiation levels.

The participating students stated that it was a valuable learning opportunity to get to know about fields other than their own. Some mentioned that they could obtain new knowledge through interdisciplinary learning. It was a very fruitful site visit.
