Program for Developing and Supporting the Next-Generation of Innovative Researchers at Hiroshima University (SPRING)

[Number of Support Slots] 379 individuals per year

Hiroshima University has been selected for the Japan Science and Technology Agency’s Support for Pioneering Research Initiated by the Next Generation (SPRING) program and provides financial support to an increased number of doctoral students, including research support allowances equivalent to living expenses and research funding, thereby creating an environment in which students can devote themselves to research with peace of mind. The University also provides a wide range of support, including opportunities for research study abroad, the development of collaborative research, acquisition of transferable skills, and initiatives related to career development and training.

SPARK!Plan

Hiroshima University provides a wide range of support beginning in high school, prior to university enrollment, to help students build careers as researchers. These initiatives include the development of research environments, support for research activities, career development support, career pathway guidance, financial assistance, employment support, and support for balancing work and family life.

Hiroshima University Global Doctoral Fellowship

Beginning in AY2026, Hiroshima University has newly established the Hiroshima University Global Doctoral Fellowship, which provides financial support to international students enrolling in the doctoral programs. The program is designed to create an environment in which international students can devote themselves to research with peace of mind while fostering individuals who will contribute to Japan’s future in science, technology, and innovation and help shape the future of the world. Students selected for the program will be employed as researchers and provided with salaries and research funding.
