In Japan, a country with vast maritime areas, the ocean is an essential foundation supporting our economy and daily lives. As challenges surrounding the ocean become increasingly complex due to climate change, technological innovation, and changes in the international situation, we are entering a major period of transformation.
The Graduate School of Maritime and Marine Science at Hiroshima University is an interdisciplinary education and research hub that addresses these global challenges through integrated knowledge of the ocean spanning three fields: policy, technology, and the environment.
With the Kure Campus in Kure, Setouchi, a region home to a world-leading maritime industry cluster, the Graduate School will provide international education in English and establish strong partnerships with specialized and professional organizations in Japan and abroad. Through these efforts, it will develop leaders who will lead the way toward a sustainable global maritime society and contribute to the creation of a “new science of peace.”
