Introducing a Remote Medical Interpretation Service

Hiroshima University Hospital is pleased to announce that we will introduce a remote medical interpretation service called “mymediPhone” provided by mediPhone, Inc. (Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo) on March 1, 2022.

The service is specialized in medical institutions and makes it possible for them to handle their medical treatments in 107 languages by AI, 30 languages by phone with registered medical interpreters and 2 languages (English and Chinese) by video. They can select the services through designated devices with an application or over the phone depending on the situation.

Hiroshima University Hospital had approximately 400 new foreign patients coming from over 40 countries a year before the COVID-19 pandemic. In order to assist increasing foreign patients year by year, we launched the Division of International Medical Support in May 2020 and have promoted a multilingual environment including in-person medical interpreters and brochures in English and Chinese. The adoption of “mymediPhone” is one of our multilingual environment services and we are preparing for when many foreign patients will visit again after COVID-19. We continuously make every effort to accommodate the needs of foreign patients.
