Hiroshima University has inherited the education and research assets and brand of the Graduate School for International Development and Cooperation (IDEC) for more than 25 years since 1994, while promoting transdisciplinary research and human resource development that contributes to the globalization of the concept of Society 5.0. In April 2022, “the IDEC Institute” was established as a global hub of Hiroshima University. To commemorate its establishment, a kick-off symposium will be held as follows.

Professor, Eric Rubin, M.D., Ph.D, Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health

Professor Eric Rubin, M.D., Ph.D. is a Professor in the Department of Immunology and Infectious Diseases at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, and a Specially Invited Professor of Hiroshima University from 2022. He has been the Editor-in-Chief of The New England Journal of Medicine since 2019.

Savin Ven Johnson, Deputy Director, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development

Savin Ven Jhonson graduated from the double degree program between Hiroshima University Graduate School of International Cooperation Studies (IDEC) and the Lyndon Johnson School of Public Policy at the University of Texas at Austin in 2014. She works at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development as a deputy director.

KANEKO Shinji, Director of The IDEC Institute

KANEKO Shinji is the Executive Vice President for Global Initiatives and a Professor at the Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Hiroshima University. He serves as the Director of the IDEC Institute and the Director of the Network for Education and Research on Peace and Sustainability (NERPS) at Hiroshima University.
