On November 12, 2015, Prof. Louis Yuge, Institute of Biomedical and Health Sciences (Department of Bio-Environmental Adaptation Sciences, Division of Basic Life Sciences) had been awarded in the Fields of Physical and Life Sciences by CASIS (Center for the Advancement of Science in Space) which is the sole manager of the International Space Station U.S. National Laboratory.
CASIS is the independent organization which helps develop and manage a varied discoveries and innovations by using the US space station based on national needs for basic and applied research in science, technology and industry, and provides annual awards / qualified funding sources to promising research projects creating scientific merit and economic stimulus.
「Cranial Bone Marrow Stem Cell Culture in Space」, regenerative medical research project using the unique microgravity environment elaborated by Prof. Louis Yuge and co-investigators, has been awarded from CASIS.
In 2015, the award ceremony was held for three research projects including the team of Professor Yuge (PI) and Dr. Yang (Ted) Teng (CO), Brigham and Women's Hospital and Harvard Medical School Department of Neurosurgery in Washington D.C.
