“Jet fuel production from biomass through BTL process”

Taking the aviation CO2 emissions into account, the utilization of aviation biofuel is very promising. Biomass can be converted to aviation biofuel through Biomass-to-Liquid (BTL) process. In the lecture, the trend of research and development in the process is introduced. The process comprises hydrocracking step in which n-paraffin is converted to jet fuel. In the hydrocracking reaction over Pt loaded zeolite catalysts, the Pt particle size and Pt particle density were controlled using microemulsion, followed by the increase in the yield of corresponding jet fuel.

◆Lecture: Pattasuda DUANGKAEW

D2 Student, Graduate School of Engineering, Hiroshima University

“Hydrothermal pretreatment of macroalgae for sugar production; Investigation of products of mannitol decomposition during hydrothermal process via real time mass spectrometry.”

Recently, with rising prices for petroleum and concern for global warming due to the use of fossil fuels the development of renewable fuel source continues to attract a lot of attention. The technology for conversion of biomass resources to fuels and chemicals are necessary. To determination and manipulation of the primary product during hydrothermal process of macroalgae. Therefore, the aims of this research to develop and design the real time analysis of sugar production under hydrothermal pretreatment conditions via real time mass spectroscopic method. The products of mannitol during hydrothermal; pretreatment under various temperatures (140-220℃) have been investigated. Moreover, the results from direct mass analysis, once quenched method and commercial HPLC were compared.

※We will hold the discussion meeting from 18:00 (800 JPY needed). Join this meeting, too if you are available.
