On February 11, a group of 35 medical students from Egypt who came as part of the short-term stay program of the School of Medicine visited HU's hospital. During their visit, they saw and operated the surgery support robot Da Vinci and participated in a special lecture on the new coronavirus.
After receiving training on how to operate Da Vinci by Associate Professor Jun Teishima from the Department of Urology, the students experienced controlling the robot arm while looking at the 3D images displayed in a monitor. They were able to observe the precision and efficiency of the robot through experiments such as putting a ring in and out of a miniature cone.
On the other hand, Professor Hiroki Ohge of the Department of Infectious Diseases provided an easy-to-understand lecture on the latest finds of the novel coronavirus, which has become an epidemic of global concern.
During the lecture, the topic "What should be done as a medical leader when a pandemic occurs?" was discussed, resulting in the active participation of the students with very interesting questions.
The short-term stay program accepted 73 medical students from 18 universities in Egypt divided into two groups, each of which conducted lectures in medicine as well as lab visits and hospital tours for one week. HU expects that further exchanges with Egypt will continue.
