On March 27, 2023, a hybrid workshop was held, with HIRAKU-Global Consortium Mentor Dr. SUZUKI Eiichiro and Dr. KITAOKA Shun from HARAKENZO WORLD PATENT & TRADEMARK INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY LAW FIRM instructing the workshop.

Focusing on the theme of "patents from the standpoint of inventors and scholars", Dr. SUZUKI outlined the history of patents in Japan's industrial development and the significance of patents in basic research. Thereafter, focusing on the theme of "patents from the standpoint of a patent attorney", Dr. KITAOKA explained the various systems in place, such as the intellectual property system, as well as the necessary requirements and procedures that need to be undertaken for patent applications.

At the conclusion of the presentations, a question and answer session was undertaken, where all participants, including those who joined online, actively partook in the discussions.
At the conclusion of the workshop, the participants mentioned that the workshop itself was a valuable experience because they do not usually have the opportunity to learn about patents and intellectual property.

• 特許取得に関して全くの素人であり、大変勉強になりました。
• 知的財産について学ぶ機会はほとんどないため、基礎や歴史から具体的な研究者としての関わり方まで学べたのは非常に良かった。

• これまでアカデミアにおける特許申請のメリットが分からなかったので、本ワークショップを拝聴し勉強させていただきました。分野的にも、どちらかというと医療系に近いので、自分にとって特許は関係ないものと思っておりましたが、今後特許申請について考えてみてもいいのではと思いました。
• 具体的な申請メソッドをご教示いただき大変勉強になりました。特許申請を考えるうえでは、絶対に公表してはいけないと思っていたので、30条適用などがあることを知り、特許に対する認識が変わりました。
