If you are a student or employee of Hiroshima University, you can access electronic journals and books, as well as databases from home, or when you are on a business trip. If you are an associate of Hiroshima University (but not a member of the Hiroshima University system) or a member of the general public, you cannot access these services from outside of campus. You can find the 2 methods for connecting to these services below.
1 Connecting with VPN
The VPN service is a service that allows you to connect to the on-campus network from off-campus.
1. Installing the Software and Connecting
After downloading and installing the special software, please connect to the VPN (リンク). For information on installing and connecting, please check the Information Media Center's instructions.
For more detailed questions or inquiries, please contact the Information Media Center directly.
2. Using Electronic Journals and Databases
After connecting to the VPN, you can use the electronic journal and book databases that Hiroshima University has a contract with.
The following databases are not available when connecting through the VPN due to the terms of their contracts.
- Beck Online: Premium Edition (C.H. Beck)
- UpToDate (Wolters Kluwer Health)
Terms may change with the yearly renewal of contracts.
2 Accessing Through "Single Sign-in"(Shibboleth)
By just authenticating your Hiroshima University ID and password, you can access some electronic journals, books, and databases.
1. How to Authenticate your ID and Password on Journal and Database Websites
On the electronic journal or database's page, choose "organization login (Shibboleth Login, Institution Login)", then choose "Japanese Institution Login (Gakunin)" and "Hiroshima University".
2. Authenticate your ID and Password at the Hirodai Login
The Hirodai Login page will be displayed, so please enter your Hiroshima University ID and password as normal.
3. Using the Electronic Journals and Databases
If you are able to log in, you will be able to use the electronic journals and databases.
※Currently, the following electronic journals and databases are available to access through "single sign-on" (shibboleth).
