Donations to the Library

1. Request for Donations to the "Hiroshima University Library Activity Support Fund"

Hiroshima University Library has supported the education and research of our students and faculty while serving as a library open to the public. We aim to further enhance our academic materials and services for local residents to meet the lifelong learning needs of our community.
We would like to ask those interested in our library activities to contribute to the "Hiroshima University Library Activity Support Fund." Through this support, we hope to advance our library services and meet the expectations of our local community. In this way, Hiroshima University Library aims to serve as a central cultural and academic facility that our region needs.
Your donations will be used to support the following library activities:
(1) Purchase of books and journals
(2) Enhancement of library facilities
(3) Improvement of user services

Hiroshima University Library Activity Support Fund Performance Report

Please note that donations to our university qualify for tax benefits. For individuals, donations are eligible for tax deductions under income tax law as specified donations. For corporations, donations are fully deductible under corporate tax law as designated donations.

For donations from minors, a consent form from a parent or guardian is required (any format is acceptable).


※Please note that we do not accept applications from middle school students or younger.

2. Benefits for Donors

Individual donors who contribute 10,000 yen or more and wish to receive benefits will be issued a "Hiroshima University Library Friendly Use Card." Benefits vary according to the donation amount.

200,000 yen or more

Friendly Use Card validity: Lifetime
Material borrowing privileges: Same as faculty and staff※1※2
Direct access to the Central Library stacks and private reading rooms without visiting the counter
Your name will be displayed on a nameplate or new desk
A certificate of appreciation will be sent to you

80,000 yen or more

Friendly Use Card validity: 10 years
Material borrowing privileges: Same as graduate students※1※2
Access to Central Library stacks and private reading rooms
Your name will be displayed on a nameplate
A certificate of appreciation will be sent to you

10,000 yen or more

  • Friendly Use Card validity: 1 year
     
  • Material borrowing privileges: Same as undergraduate students※1※2

※1 For detailed borrowing conditions, please see here. or emeritus professors, the borrowing limits will be the same as those for emeritus professors.

※2 Some borrowing services, such as journal lending and long-term book loans, are not available.

Benefits of the Friendly Use Card

1 Material Borrowing You can borrow books and audiovisual materials from the library collection.
2 Reservation of Borrowed Books You can reserve books that are currently borrowed by other users.
3 Extension of Borrowing Period You can extend the borrowing period up to two times. However, if another user has placed a reservation, extension is not possible.
4 Book Retrieval from Other Campuses You can request books from libraries at other campuses of the university.
5 Use of Private Reading Rooms and Group Study Rooms You can use these spaces when you want to study alone or in a group with discussion.
6 Access to Book Stacks You can enter and exit the Central Library stacks using your Friendly Use Card.
7 Interlibrary Loan Services When materials you need are not available at Hiroshima University, you can request originals or copies from other institutions to be delivered to the university library (fee required/domestic only). Note that borrowed originals must be used within the library. ※This service is not available to those affiliated with other universities.
8 Borrowing from Hiroshima City Library You can use materials from Hiroshima City Library through Hiroshima University Central Library as a service window.
9 Book Purchase Requests  You can request books you would like the library to acquire. If suitable for the university collection, they will be purchased.
10 National Diet Library Digital Material Transmission Service This service allows you to view digital images of materials digitized by the National Diet Library that are difficult to obtain due to being out of print, available at the Central Library and Kasumi Library.

3. Donation Procedures

Paper Application 

[1] Apply at the counter of Central Library, Kasumi Library, or Higashisenda Library. If you wish to receive a Friendly User Card, please bring identification documents. For applications made on weekdays from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, we will issue the card on the same day. For other times, the card will be sent by mail.

[2] Approximately two weeks after your application, our university's finance department will send you a payment request form. Please make your donation within 60 days of your application date. If payment is not received within 60 days of the application date, your Friendly User Card privileges will be temporarily suspended.

[3] (For donors of 80,000 yen or more only) After we confirm receipt of your donation, we will contact you regarding nameplate installation and issuing an IC card for stack room access for Friendly User Card holders.

Application by Mail

For those requesting a Friendly User Card, we will send it once we confirm receipt of your application.
