The Student staff of the Center for Academic Practice and Resources organised the 3rd "TA Seminar 2022"

On February 28, 2022, the Center for Academic Practice and Resources at Hiroshima University held the 3rd TA Seminar of the 2022 academic year online. The seminar was aimed at students who serve as Teaching Assistants (TAs) at Hiroshima University, with the purpose of acquiring basic skills and knowledge through training seminars. This time, the theme was "Challenges and Solutions for TAs," and three TFs (Teaching Fellows) shared their own experiences and responded to participants' concerns.

First, Associate Professor Yusuke Sakurai, who oversees the Center for Academic Practice and Resources, explained the center's roles and how to obtain a TF certification. Next, two student staff members, Kai-xiang Kang (Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences, D2) and Miaomiao Liu (Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences, D1), introduced their own QTA/TF experiences and shared what they learned from them with the participants. Afterwards, they answered questions and concerns submitted beforehand, and engaged in lively discussions with the participants.

This time, we took advantage of the benefits of online communication, such as using screen sharing and other online functions, to demonstrate the usage and registration process of the HirodaiTA matching platform. These online procedures are sometimes difficult to explain without a computer screen in face-to-face meetings, and we demonstrated these procedures to the participants in an easy-to-understand manner.

After the event, participants provided feedback such as "I was unsure if I could ask the responsible teacher, but I was able to talk about it here" and "I understood the workings of the TA matching platform and it was helpful." The student staff also received positive feedback, saying "We were able to have a deeper conversation than usual, thanks to the friendly atmosphere during the seminar."

Next year, we plan to continue holding regular TA seminars like this one to promote the quality of education at Hiroshima University.
