CAPR successfully held the 9th TA seminar!

The Center for Academic Practice and Resources (CAPR) of Hiroshima University (HU) held the 9th TA (Teaching Assistant) seminar on 18th July 2023 through Teams. To cultivate and improve teachers’ and students’ education competency, CAPR holds seminars regularly (around 4 times a year) on different topics for HU students and teachers who are interested in TA.

This TA seminar set a special goal, which aimed at introducing TAs' concrete responsibilities (preparation for lessons, facilitation for the experiments, support the group work and so on) in different fields of disciplines. To achieve this goal, we invited two student staff members appointed in CAPR (one is humanities & another in science) and a guest speaker who is enrolled in a master course with rich TA experiences in international courses using English as an instructional language. CAPR provided a chance for every participant to know their TA work experiences, know-how and the difference of TA work among humanities, science, and international courses.

CAPR held this seminar regardless of audience members' majors and without requiring pre-registration, which means the participants could join freely. This strategy attracted around 60 participants. In this seminar, the presentation (45min), panel discussion and Q&A (45min) related to the TA work were the main session agenda. Concerns during their TA work and individual developmental experience via TA experiences were shared. In addition, questions from the audience were dealt with through the chat box in the Teams meeting room.

CAPR successfully held this TA seminar and planned to hold the next seminar in November. The next TA seminar will use English as a communication language. If you want to experience TA in English, please do not hesitate to join the next event. See you then!
