(Basic) Preparing Future Faculty Course conducted in February!

The "(Basic) Preparing Future Faculty Course" (the course) was held over four days in late February. The course was led by Associate Professor Yūsuke Sakurai, Assistant Professor Kazuhisa Ando, and Professor Kyōji Maruyama, Professor Takahiro Sumiya, Associate Professor Adilin Anuardi, and Professor Toshihiro Yamada, along with contributions from five teaching fellows. Twenty participants from various graduate schools attended, including 12 Japanese students and 8 international students. Sessions were held in-person at the Higashi-Hiroshima Campus, with English and Japanese sessions.

The course aimed to provide participants with a thorough understanding of the basic knowledge and skills in designing university teaching. It covered educational theory, learning theory, curriculum design, copyright, microteaching, and best teaching practices. Participants gained theoretical knowledge, discussed ideas in group work, designed courses, and conducted microteaching sessions in groups, enhancing their teaching skills.

One participant shared, "This course has inspired me to consider a future career as a university faculty member. I found joy in teaching and fulfillment in education." The course offered valuable knowledge and practical experience for aspiring educators, encouraging them to reflect on their educational philosophies. Additionally, it facilitated intercultural exchange among students from diverse backgrounds, transcending national and disciplinary boundaries.
