The Center for Academic Practice and Resources held the 2nd TA Seminar of the 2026 academic year, "My Experiences as a TA―Dialogue with Beginners―," on Thursday, July 16, 2026, at the Student Plaza (1st floor). The seminar was held to foster interaction between experienced TAs and students who are new to TA work or have little experience, and to deepen participants' understanding of TA duties. We were joined by 11 participants from the School of Applied Biological Science, the Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences, the Graduate School of Advanced Science and Engineering, and the Graduate School of Integrated Sciences for Life.

With student staff also joining, participants were divided into three groups for discussion. In the first half, "Aspirations and Expectations for Being a TA," participants talked about what first drew them to TA work and the images they had of it before starting. Listening closely to one another's views, they exchanged opinions and deepened their interaction in a friendly atmosphere.
In the second half, "Experienced TAs' Stories," participants shared the challenges they had faced in actual TA work and the approaches they used when interacting with students. Experienced TAs also offered concrete advice, and each group saw lively exchanges of questions and opinions. Afterward, the groups shared what they had discussed with all participants, deepening everyone's understanding of each other's experiences and perspectives.

In the post-event questionnaire, participants shared comments such as "I was able to interact with people who had a wide range of TA experiences," "I learned things TAs should keep in mind and how to interact with students," and "I was able to resolve my questions and concerns about being a TA." We will make use of the feedback from participants in planning and running future TA Seminars.The next TA Seminar is scheduled to be held between October and November.
