This is a program that overseas dental students learn specialized curriculum with Japanese students in Hiroshima.
International Dental Course, School of Dentistry has started in 2011 to accept 3 special audit students from Asian universities with academic exchange agreements.
International Dental Course students take specialized education together with dental students in Hiroshima University for three and a half years from their 2nd year, after completion of their 6-month Japanese program and basic education. Sharing time together (learning, playing and exchanging opinions) with the students brought up in different countries has also given a great benefit to Japanese students in mutual development of global awareness, ability to cope with globalization and network intensification. We aim to found the basis to educate prospective personnel capable of taking leadership in Asia through this international course (Chart 1). Since the start of the course, many classes have been taught both in English and Japanese (dual linguistic education system).
Outline of International Dental Course
International Dental Course students are offered a half-year preparatory program including Japanese language and basic education before the course begins. The three-and-a-half year course consists of specialized basic education, specialized clinical education and clinical preliminary training. From their first year starting in April, they receive joint lectures and practices together with 2nd year dental students that are conducted in both Japanese and English (dual linguistic system). Teaching is basically carried out in English. Upon their completion of the program in Japan, IDC students take the national examination for dental practitioners after receiving required clinical trainings in their home countries.
