Signings of MOUs between HU and PERSADA as well as HU and UNSADA have been concluded and the PERSADA-HU Collaboration Project Center has been opened

On February 11, 2016, the signings of both an agreement of cooperation between HU and the Association of Indonesian Alumni from Japan (PERSADA) as well as an agreement of student exchange between HU and the Darma Persada University (UNSADA) have been successfully concluded. PERSADA, founded in 1963 by former international students, is an organization hoping to bring Japan and Indonesia closer together by building relationships of friendship. UNSADA was founded in 1986 by PERSADA in order to contribute to the development of their home country by using what they had learned during their study abroad in Japan.

Darma Persada University hosted the signing ceremony at its campus in Jakarta City, also the location of PERSADA’s headquarters. In attendance, among others, were Mitsuo Ochi, President of Hiroshima University, Dr. Ir. Ginandjar Kartasasmita, Advisor to PERSADA (also External Councilor of HU’s Administrative Council), and Dr. H. Dadang Solihin, Rector of UNSADA. Furthermore, in order to promote a future of cooperation and exchange, the PERSADA-HU Collaboration Project Center has been established at the organization’s headquarters.

In addition to the signing ceremony, President Mitsuo Ochi presented the four chairpersons of the HU Alumni Associations in Jakarta, Surabaja, Bandung, and Makassar with certificates of recognition as Hiroshima University International Exchange Ambassadors.

In his closing speech at the ceremony, Dr. Ir. Ginandjar Kartasasmita said, “As I am already involved in the management of these organizations, I am greatly pleased to see that the relationship between Hiroshima University and PERSADA is flourishing. Among the founding members of PERSADA is also one who had been an international student at Hiroshima University during the time of the atomic bombing, so it is evident that the roots of our relationship run deep.” (*)

With the successful signing of these agreements, we have great hopes that the various alumni activities and networking events in Indonesia, as well as the student exchanges between HU and UNSADA will be facilitated even further.

(*)In 2013, Hiroshima University awarded honorary doctorate degrees to the three international students who had been studying at Hiroshima University during the time of the atomic bomb. Indonesian student and also one of the founding members of PERSADA, Mr. Hasan Rahaya, was one of those awarded.
