On October 9, 2012, Executive and Vice President Tetsuji Okamoto and his party visited the University of Sao Paulo Faculty of Law and received a letter of appreciation from the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Professor Antonio Magalhaes Gomes Filho. In 2010, Hiroshima University concluded an exchange agreement with University of Sao Paulo, which is a leading multidisciplinary research university in South America, and is actively promoting academic exchange.



Hiroshima University accepted 15 students from the University of Sao Paulo Faculty of Law and Faculty of Humanities in July and August this year, and organized a two-week “Hiroshima University Summer Program for Japanese Language and Culture”. The program was highly appreciated, and the reason that Hiroshima University received a letter of appreciation. The presentation ceremony was held in the presence of Professor Masato Ninomiya from the Faculty of Law of the University of Sao Paulo, who has greatly contributed to the exchange between both universities. At the ceremony, HU received a block print as a commemorative gift made by Tomie Ohtake, a famous Japanese Brazilian artist.



Afterwards, Professor Hajime Nishitani from the HU Faculty of Law, held a special lecture on “The Treaty of Tordesillas, the Closed-door Policy of the Tokugawa Shogunate and International Law”. About 30 students from the University of Sao Paulo Faculty of Law participated, mainly undergraduate and graduate students. The lecture was held in the law professors’ traditional and prestigious conference room, and all of the participants listened carefully and asked many questions after the lecture.



We hope that in the future educational and academic exchange will continue to prosper.
