Nepalese Students Visited Hiroshima under JENESYS 2.0 and Exchanged with HU Students!

As part of the JENESYS 2.0, a project of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs promoting exchange with youths in Asia-Pacific regions, the 5th SAARC delegation of 150 young people visited Japan from Feb.10 (Mon) to Feb.18 (Tue). Among them 24 university students from Nepal led by 1 staff, came to Hiroshima University on February 13 (Thu) and exchanged with 15 HU students. In the morning, the Nepalese students visited Hiroshima City Naka Incineration Plant. Then, they returned to Hiroshima University and had lunch at the University Hall (halal chicken curry or vegan cream stew, salad and dessert). After lunch, the Nepalese and HU students showed each other performances. Afterwards, they separated into groups to have discussions in English on “academic learning and student life” or “waste disposal and environment”. The results of the discussions were presented in English.

HU students who took part in this exchange mentioned about their impressions as follows: “It was fun and I spent a very meaningful time.” “I got to know a lot about Nepal and I think I would like to visit it someday.” “It was very stimulating. I would like to improve my communication ability.” Or “My interest in foreign countries has grown”.

In this way, the participants not only enjoyed the exchange but they also learned a lot about each country’s environmental or academic situation and the differences in their ways of thinking through their discussions. At the same time, their motivation for studying was further boosted. Of course, study abroad is very important but students can have thorough international exchange on campus as well through an exchange such as this one. We hope that this activity helps students at our university to benefit from international and cultural exchange and intercultural experiences inside and outside the campus, and that they grow into personalities with global vision who spread their wings around the world.
