HU holds Japanese Language and Culture Special Program Winter Session for Students from Taiwan, China, and Non-Kanji Countries

The “Japanese Language and Culture Special Program” for Winter took place in Hiroshima University (HU). HU welcomed the students from its partner universities and institutions of Taiwan, China, and non-kanji countries.

HU offers the program since 2010, which is designed for the students from other countries who are interested in Japanese language and culture, to provide them with opportunities to deepen their understanding of Japan and to give them a chance to consider of coming back to HU to study in the future.

The program accepted 10 students from Taiwan from January 13th to January 28th, 86 students from China from January 20th to February 3rd, and 29 students from non-kanji countries from February 11th to February 26th.

In this program, the participants took Japanese language lectures and experienced Japanese culture through the classes such as “Kendama (Japanese bilboquet)”, “Kendo (Japanese art of fencing)”, “Ikebana (Japanese flower arrangement)”, etc. The participants also had an opportunity to interact with HU students. They have deepened their understanding of Japanese society and culture through a visit to Miyajima, a UNESCO world heritage site and Sake Breweries in Saijo, and have learned the importance of peace through a visit to A-bomb dome and Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum.

The participants have learned many things about Japanese language, society and culture through classroom activities, field trips, and interaction with students from HU. We hope that the students participated in this program will be a bridge between Taiwan, China, and non-kanji countries and Japan, and will come back to our university to study in the future.
