HUSA Program International Students & IGS Students Participated in the Online International Exchange of Nisshokan High School’s “Omotenashi Plan”

On November 4, 2021, students in the Hiroshima University Study Abroad Program (HUSA) and the Department of Integrated Global Studies (IGS), taking “Japanese Society and Gender Issues” (offered by Dr. Naomi Tsunematsu, Morito Institute of Global Higher Education), participated in the Online International Exchange of “Kisa Omotenashi Plan,” held by Nisshokan High School. 22 multinational students, from Britain, France, Russia, Mexico, Thailand, China, Hong Kong, and Japan, joined the event. This became the 7th time to participate in the Omotenashi international exchange.

About 250 students attended the events, including178 Nisshokan High School, together with Kisa Junior High School students, Kisa Elementary School students, host family, and international students. Students were so moved with warm welcome by beautiful performance of shodo and kendo, and brass band music performance. International students conducted English and Japanese speech and introduced themselves. With Dr. Tsunematsu presiding in English and Japanese, international students and local people are interculturally connected. It became heart-warming experience for international students, and high school students developed new intercultural insight hearing international students’ new perspectives on Japan.
