International Students & IGS Students and Nisshokan High School held International Educational Exchange and Intercultural Competence Development Seminar

On October 29, 2022, students in the Hiroshima University Study Abroad Program (HUSA) and the Department of Integrated Global Studies (IGS) (School of Integrated Arts and Sciences), taking “Glocal Internship I: Intercultural Competence in Japanese Society,” “Glocal Internship II: Intercultural Practicum to Work with Local Japan,” and “Japanese Society and Gender Issues” (offered by Dr. Naomi Tsunematsu, Morito Institute of Global Higher Education), participated in the Intercultural Competence Development Seminar and International Educational Exchange Seminar with Nisshokan High School. Students from USA, Britain, Spain, Finland, Germany, Korea, China, Hong Kong, Thailand, and Japan joined them. This became the 8th time to participate in the “Kisa Omotenashi Plan” International Exchange.

Participants were approximately 200, including 147 Nisshokan High School students, together with 9 Kisa Junior High School students, host family, and 35 international students. In the International Exchange Session, international students from Spain and Germany conducted English and Japanese speech for self-introduction. In group work, students enjoyed the intercultural games together. In classroom sessions, high school students introduced Japanese culture, and international students presented intercultural activities to connect international students and high school students. International students were introduced local history and culture in walking session with high school students. It became heart-warming and unforgettable experience for international students with heart-felt welcoming of local school.
